Minus the Bear is from Seattle.
Here’s the story about how they got their band name. A friend of the band went on a date with some girl. After the date, one of the band members asked him how it went. He replied “you know that TV show from the ’70s B.J. and The Bear? It was like that… minus The Bear.”
A legend was born.
I remember the first time I saw this live video, and how unnecessarily surprised I was to see that the wicked synth tracks were being done by Dave Knudson’s feet. The band always has this cool sense of unorthodox rhythm – it’s like when you’re sitting at the train tracks with your blinker on, and the blinker and the crossing lights match up, and they just keep matching up.
And then they grow beards and start playing electric guitar.
Also, I really enjoy how Erin Tate looks like Anton Chigurh beating the shit out of his drum set.
