When did two pregnant men become normal? Is this a case of the Overton window gone mad?
The New Normal is an new TV show on NBC that isn’t even trying to hide it’s role as a social agenda-pusher. I… I can’t even bring myself to describe the show any better than NBC does. Here’s their take:
These days, families come in all forms – single dads, double moms, sperm donors, egg donors, one-night-stand donors… It’s 2012 and anything goes. Bryan and David are a Los Angeles couple, and they have it all. Well, almost. With successful careers and a committed, loving partnership, there is one thing that this couple is missing: a baby. And just when they think the stars will never align, enter Goldie, an extraordinary young woman with a checkered past. A Midwestern waitress and single mother looking to escape her dead-end life and small-minded grandmother, Goldie decides to change everything and move to L.A. with her precocious eight-year-old daughter. Desperate and broke – but also fertile – Goldie quickly becomes the guys’ surrogate and quite possibly the girl of their dreams. Surrogate mother, surrogate family.
Good Lord, it’s something straight out of the OWS planbook. First, I love how this whole plotline is centered around absolute, bald-faced immorality. “These days, families come in all forms,” the bio begins, and then goes on to list several examples of non-families. How does a sperm donor make a family? Who’s going to be the father? The sperm?
NBC even goes as far to downplay and flippantly disregard one-night-stand pregnancies. Because, you know, single parenthood and unplanned pregnancy are just all the rage nowadays. Let’s encourage all our daughters to sleep around with no birth control! Excellent. I suppose we’re considering that a “family” too? Crimony…
So basically, we’ve got your average gay couple, and these two men are being played up to be Adonis heroes just because they’re gay, looking to have a child. And this single mother is the other hero of the story, along with her “precocious” child. So we’ve got two gay men, a single mother, and an unruly child. Sounds like role models!
And who is the negative foil? Oh, right, the “small minded” grandmother who is destined to be the butt of every anti-Christian, anti-Conservative joke as the show blazes it’s trail of social propaganda. Of course, Jane the bigot grandma is played by Ellen Barkin, who is one of the more radical leftist actors in Hollywood. So I’m sure she’ll play a conservative character fairly, without taking any wild, misleading swings at the beliefs of others.
I mean, if this sounds like your cup of tea, by all means tune into NBC and have a cackle. Just be forewarned that NBC isn’t even trying to hide their liberal social bias anymore. I think the network has vastly overestimated how far they believe society has moved to the left, and the gall they show in airing this type of show really proves that. “Ham-handed” is really the only word that comes to mind. NBC is trying to shove their liberal ham-hands down our throats.
The New Normal is going to come back and bite NBC in the rear, because I predict this show is going to tank faster than Tank Cat.
And Tank Cat tanks fast.
That’s the GtG take.
